Well our one vacation of the year is over. I am sitting on the plane as we speak. Unfortunately I can’t convince brian into taking more than one trip a year. His idea of a weekend trip is going to Austin to catch a football game or something similar. Maybe I should plan weekend trips on my own :).

Anyway I am going to miss the weather here in San diego. There were days when it was a bit too hot nut the wind made it bearable. I don’t think it ever got over 75 degrees. On thursday, we decided to forego a trip to legoland due to the ticket prices and instead opted to go to LA instead. The traffic in LA was horrid. Since it was just a day trip, we only had enough time to drive to Hollywood Blvd, go to Rodeo Dr, and drive through Mulholland Dr which was the highlight of the trip. Then it was time to head back to SD. I am sure there are other things to see and do in LA, but we will leave that for another trip. It I’d sad to see that the entire city is covered in smog. You could barely get a glimpse of the Hollywood sign because it was so bad. Oh well.

Yesterday, we headed down to Pacific Beach, had lunch on the boardwalk, took a walk along the water, then rented a couple of bikes a rode down the boardwalk. I haven’t been ok a bike for maybe 15 years so I was a little wobbly, but only because the bike was too tall for me. We met a friend of mine for drinks before heading back to the hotel. The trip wasn’t as relaxing as laying on a beach all week, but overall we had a great time. I can see why people want to live in Cali. However I am glad to be going home. Too bad it is over 100 degrees the rest of the week.

I woke up at 5:00am and couldn’t get myself back to sleep. Now I am contemplating getting on a conference call at work in an hour even though it’s my vacation. Urgh. I am sure brian will not appreciate it.

Yesterday Brian and I toured the USS Midway. It’s interesting seeing an actual navy ship. I think it’s the navy that’s on sea… We spent half the day doing that. Then after lunch went back to the room before heading back out again to La Jolla. Unfortunately the clouds were out do we didn’t get to enjoy the sunset. But we did lay around a park at La Jolla Cove and people watch/read our books. It then got too cold to sit there, so we gathered our stuff and headed out. We couldn’t find a place to eat in La Jolla so we decided to go out for burgers at In-N-Out burgers instead. Excellent choice.

Today plan is getting a massage, followed by a walk around gaslamp and exploring the rest of downtown. Then we’ll be going to a ballgame at Petco Park.

It’s so nice to not have to worry about work. We are finally on vacation. I guess my body isn’t used to the two hour time change yet because it’s six am here. I have been awake for an hour. Anyway, we landed at San Diego yesterday afternoon. Our flight was delayed for about forty minutes because one if the flight attendants was missing. We checked into our hotel- Sofia Hotel. The rooms here are itty bitty, but it is super cute and modern. Parking though kinds sucks. The daily rate is 28/day. I think we are going to try to find street parking. We will see. So yesterday we walked around the gaslamp district. Most of what we saw were restaurants. Too bad Dallas doesn’t have sonething like that. Anyhow. We had dinner at Los Puertos. The food was similar to a taco diner. It was good but not amazing. Today I think we are either going to the zoo or the beach. Yesterday I had this really awful back/stomach cramp. It hurt so bad to just walk. I am not sure where it came from but it just happened suddenly when I woke up yesterday morning. Ugh. I hope I dont feel that way all week.

It seems I only make updates on the weekends. I can’t believe Sunday is half over. Yuck. Yesterday Brian and I went to go see The Dark Knight. It was a very good movie, very dark, but not too violent. I guess it’s because it’s PG13. I think if it was rated R it may have been a better movie. I’m not sure I like Maggie Gyllenhal’s as Rachel, but everyone else did a fantastic movie. Unfortunately it seemed the movie was more about Harvey Dent than it was about Batman himself.

Anyway, other than the movie, we spent the majority of the weekend chilling. I baked Brian his birthday cake today, and tonight we’ll probably grill or something for his early birthday dinner. I need to pack up for my trip to Richmond tomorrow. I feel completely unprepared, although I’m not sure what else I can do. Most of it is going to be talking anyway.

Since Matt and Josie are coming into town next weekend, I’ve been getting the laundry done and washing all the sheets in the guest room. I hate laundry. It’s NEVER ending. Anyway, there’s more tidying up to do, but I guess I can work on it when I get back.

…puppy!

This morning, Brian and I went to visit our new puppy Leah, or Lele. We walked in and saw 7 precious puppies all running around in their little pen. Baby Lele was one of the smallest and pretty shy out of the bunch. But we think she’ll be the perfect match for Miss Reesey.

While we were playing with the pups, I was a bit undecided between her and the other doggy. But the other pup was like a pistol and too rambunctious. Besides, our intention was to go see Lele. Anyway, we’ve fallen in love and can’t wait to bring her home in a month. I just hope Reesey treats her well.

I am actually sitting here getting my toes done. It was either that or do nothing at home. This past week has been totally hectic. But it did make the week go by by faster. Even reesey had a busy week. We took her to the groomer. Unfortunately the other night we discovered a big wound on the top of her head. It looked like the groomer may have brushes the top of her head too hard or cut her. I was so upset. I couldn’t imagine how much pain she must have been though. Luckily her spirit is still the same. I dont think I would take her back there. Or maybe we should take better care of her mats. So with that aside, there wasn’t much else going on.

It’s Sunday at 4:30 and I’m putting off work. I’m sleepy. The hot sun makes me sleepy. I was out all morning running errands. Brian and I went to Garden Ridge earlier to look at fake plants and bought a bamboo looking plant for the office. As for the rest of the house, I think we need some greener but real. The fake stuff looks too dang fake. I don’t what else we bought from there but it added up to 127 bucks. THEN, I went to Costco with my mom and I loaded up on some stuff that I knew I wouldn’t be able to waste. Mainly meat and stuff I can freeze. There goes another 100 something bucks. Whew. Stuff just seems to add up. Yesterday we went shopping. I can’t remember how we ended up at the mall. I think Brian needed to get his bike tuned up at Dicks and I needed a haircut. Anyway, I ended up spending 200 hundred bucks on clothes. I did get 3 shirts from Banana Republic and a floor length casual skirt from the Gap. I’ve been looking for this style of skirt for awhile. Too bad it wasn’t on sale. Brian got 2 shirts. I *should* be done with shopping for the month. On top of the purchases we’ve been spending more on entertainment. Going to happy hours, dinners with friends, and just plain eating out. I know Brian wants us to host another house party next month. But I think we’ll wait until August to have people over. We need to curb our spending since we’ll be heading out to vacation next month.

One other update. I’ve been getting these pesky debt collector calls from some fake law office. They’ve even called my in-law a couple times. It’s for a credit card that opened college and couldn’t pay off because I was too stoopid and poor. I did eventually pay off all my debts before we got married and bought the house, so I’m not sure how they got my info. Everytime they call, they keep telling me they’ll file a lawsuit in my county. I once called them back and told them to stop calling. Finally I sent them a Do Not call letter. If they continue to call me or anyone else, they’re officially breaking law. Not that they weren’t breaking the law before by making false claims. I checked my credit report and it does not show any bad debt. I even checked the credit report I bought about a year ago and didn’t see anything bad. Hrmph. I wish they would go away. I read somewhere that Buffalo, NY is the breeding ground for these pesky debt collectors. It’s days like these that I’m glad I have a good standing career and was able to address any bad marks. Nowadays, I can’t imagine how people can deal with the stress of bad credit. I’m glad my credit is high, and I’m glad we have no debt other than a mortgage, car payments, and student loans.

Despite all our spending, Brian and I do make it a point to save a good amount in our 401K and regular savings. We still need to combine our accounts to make it easier for tracking. It’s just a matter of getting our butts to the bank. In the meantime, I do put in about 30% of my income into a savings account that’s not for retirement. We both also have a pretty good amount in our emergency fund. I think Brian feels like it’s still not enough. That’s kinda funny because a friend’s boyfriend feels the same way. With that said, I hope we can continue with this path. Brian and I briefly talked about how long I plan on staying home when we have our first child. I said 12 weeks, which is the max without really losing my job. He was thinking something like a year. I never anticipated staying home longer than the 12 weeks. I guess it depends on the state of where we are at that time. I certainly don’t plan on being a SAHM my whole life.

I had a small ephipany the other week. For awhile I was unsure as to where I wanted to be in my career. I was happy with my position, and in my opinion I’ve reached a point in my career where it would take others a few more years to get to. I know I’m good at my job, although at times I feel like I should be more organized. It’s hard to do so when you’re jumping from meetings to meetings. I like my job and I definitely want it to evolve into something more. I’m still unsure as to what that would be, but I have clearer vision of the path I want to take. I hate talking about work since I know coworkers may be reading this.

Not much to say other than Reesey hurt her other leg playing fetch this past weekend. She had just recovered from her right front leg hurting, and now she’s hurt her left front leg. I noticed her walking funny as she was going down the stairs and not standing straight. Plus she was mopey all day yesterday, although I’m sure she was mopey because Brian was in bed all day due to a high fever. Good thing she’s going to the vet this week for some shots, we’ll be sure to have them take a look.

At least her spirit is the same, for the most part that is. I want her to be 100% healthy, but it’s so hard to keep her that way when she likes playing rough. She hurt herself by hitting the corner of the wall as she turned around to catch her squeaky.

Anyway, this weekend was very uneventful since Brian is sick. I’m not sure where it came from, but he was sick with something similar about a month ago. I hope I don’t catch it again because it took me about 2 weeks to recover from it.

I feel old. Or maybe because I treated my body pretty badly this weekend because my body feels really lousy today. On Friday, I went to a work happy hour. After mentioning that I needed a drink, a coworker organized a happy hour. I got a bit tipsy, but it was definitely needed after the long week. Those drinks at BJs are strong! I then proceeded to go eat BAD fried catfish at a local dive in Allen. Brian and I ended up here by accident because the place we were looking for was closed. So we decided to stop here since it looked quite busy. The people there looked a little rough around the edges, and there was karaoke. So weird. I can’t remember the name of the place, but whatever it was called, it’s in downtown Allen. Stay away people.

Then on Saturday, we spent a couple hours at my parents place before heading out to the ballpark in Arlington to watch the Astros and Rangers. The Rangers won. We haven’t been to a ballgame in a two years, but it was fun and we’ll have to do it again. The only reason why we went this year was because I got the tickets from work. Too bad the hotdogs and nachos we had sucked, but Brian did enjoy his cotton candy which he reluctantly shared it with me. And…shame on me for having processed meat! I suck at trying to be vegetarian.

Anyway, we left the game after the 8th inning and went to a friend’s house for some drinks. After getting tipsy some more and eating more junk food we finally headed home at 3am and crashed until lunchtime the next day. By the way, these people’s house makes me want to redecorate. It had a lofty feel to it, which is the total opposite of our decor.

On Sunday, I had to finish up my cupcakes for the cake decorating class. Before the class, we went to Chili’s for lunch and I for some reason craved their fried stuff, possibly because I was eating lousy all weekend long. My body definitely paid for it last night and this morning because I didn’t sleep well at all and woke up with a stomach ache.

So this week, I need to get back on the healthy routine. I had a veggie sandwich for lunch, and need to plan what to have for dinner since we have nothing to cook with at home.

I also need to do a better job of meal planning. I haven’t been cooking as much which isn’t a good thing. On top of that, I need to start going back to the gym and doing some of those free classes. I enjoy those much more than the boring cardio workout. I think I’ll go to yoga tomorrow morning at Sunstone. That is if I can wake up at 5:30 am….

The other to-do is finish planning our trip. We’re undecided between a fancy hotel or the standard economy hotels. I know we won’t be spending too much time in the room, but it is a vacation afterall. I looked at the rates for the Solamar Hotel that Terri recommended, but I think it’s too much of a splurge. I did see some good rates at Temecula Creek Inn, but it seems out of the way. The Hyatt Regency in La Jolla had some good rates. If I had it my way, I’d go with the Hyatt, but Brian had some sticker shock only because he doesn’t do any of the planning and didn’t realize how expensive stuff was. I guess we’ll figure it all out tonight.

So Brian and I went to our second session at Sunstone Yoga today. This time we were a bit more tired and a little less motivated. Only because it was already 6pm and we’re usually at home by then. Perhaps we should stick to doing yoga on the weekends. About halfway through, Brian mouthed that he was tired and ready to go. That pretty much broke my concentration and I too was ready to go. But we stuck it through the entire 90 minutes. My clothes were drenching with sweat, but this time I was able to tolerate the heat much better than the last time and also my breathing was more calm. Maybe it’s because I put less effort in the poses. But it’s so hard trying to grab on to your toes or legs when your hands and legs are all slick with sweat. So our 10 day trial period is over. I think we’ll buy a pass and use it as a supplement to working out. I’m going to try to get Brian to go to the yoga classes at 24 hour fitness to see if he likes that as much before we commit to anything….

Alright, it’s that time of the year where we need to start planning our vacation. Last year because of the new house, we didn’t want to go anywhere far or extravagant to keep the costs down.

This year however, I think we’ll finally venture out to the west coast.

I totally suck at trying to find the best deals, I always end up just purchasing the entire package from expedia or travelocity. I don’t really know how people compare between what you get on these sites or the actual hotel website, etc. I guess after finally picking a location, everything starts to look the same including the price.

So the question is should we try to stay in a boutique hotel or a corporate hotel in San Diego? And what location should we be staying in?? And do we want to do all the touristy stuff like the Zoo or Seaworld? I know we should since it’s supposed to be awesome. But I’d also like to venture off and do something offbeat. Not sure what though?

Before I want to book anything though, I need to pay off this month’s credit card bill. It’s higher than normal but that’s because it included the new office furniture, car maintenance, and other random big purchases. I think we blew the tax rebate payment before we even received it.
