Dreaded task over and done with

We spent 5 hours last night cleaning the apartment. I think we did a pretty good job, so no maid required. I’m glad we got it done and over with, it was such a dreadful task. My fingers were all wrinkly and knuckles started bleeding from being wet, and I was wearing gloves. Oh well. Now my back hurts.

Tonight some friends from work and I are going to the gym. We started last week where we’ll try all the classes. The last three classes I went to were all lifting, so today it’s going to be different since it’s a step class.

I also need to stop by the grocery store. I’m thinking of making fish tacos with corn salsa. Hope Brian likes it.

Anyhow, now that we’ve bought all the small stuff we can think of for the house, the next thing we have to do is fill it furniture. I want to get a nice big couch or maybe sectional for the game room. I guess we’ll start shopping this weekend.

We’ve moved!

After a long and stressful waiting period (took forever for loan to fund) we finally got our keys and moved in yesterday morning. Thank goodness for movers, otherwise it would’ve taken us several days.

Reesey seems to be intrigued by the new house. I’m thinking she likes all the space, although this whole process has left her scared since she probably thought we were leaving her. Poor doggy.

Anyway, will post more and pictures later.

Oy, I think my back hurts

Office beforeOffice afterKitchen boxes

Either I didn’t sleep well, or my nap on the couch this morning wasn’t so good, or my back is sore from being hunched over boxes all day. “I” am 75% done with packing. Brian on the other hand, not sure. He’s the slow in the family though, so I didn’t expect much. I didn’t realize I had so much kitchen crap. I’m already throwing away some stuff, but I think I have about 6-7 boxes full of kitchen stuff. I’ve consolidated some of the unopened wedding gifts into bigger tubs, so the office is slowing starting to clear out, as you can see in the first two images.

When Brian brought home about 20 tubs, I thought that was too many. We have about 8 of them left and we still have stuff to pack. Anyway, I hope I don ‘t have real work to do this weekend. It would ruin the nice 3 days we have off until July 4th. Boo.

We’re having our walkthrough on Monday, and I’m super excited. We haven’t been in the house since the inspection. As much as I like this area and this apartment, I think we’re both ready to get out of here. Things are finally starting to fall apart, the sink is starting to leak and the fridge hardly works anymore. I need to find a maid service so we can get this place cleaned up after we’re gone. I certainly don’t want to it myself.

Packing Stinks

We move in 9 days. We’re about 10% packed. Ugh, moving sucks. Thankfully though, we don’t have as much as I thought we would. Other than organizing all the little stuff, it’s still not that bad. It’s definitely something we can accomplish by the end of this long weekend. There’s still other things we need to do. Contact the utility companies, cable, telephone, security, blah blah. Change our addresses. Geez I guess it is alot. I hope it doesn’t rain when we move. We’ve been lucking out on the rain this season, but I definitely don’t want to see it on the day of, nor do I want it to be muggy. I will be one useless, unhappy camper if it was.

Thankfully we haven’t unpacked most of our wedding gift, so those would be easy to organize and pack. I need to make an inventory list in case we lose stuff for any reason.

Anyway, we close next Wednesday. It’s pretty exciting. We’ve got our rates locked down, and the paperwork is slowly coming through to us for review.

I hope Reesey adapts well to do the new house. She became a super brat after we moved into this apartment 3 years ago. Speaking of which, I can’t believe it’s been three years, but still, I’m excited about our new house.

I hope my taking off a couple days next week won’t be too big of a deal. I hate leaving my clients at the hands of someone else. In other news, we also bought a new king mattress and bed. Woot. It’s scheduled to be delivered the Saturday after we move. Our next big purchases are the fridge which I think we’ll stick with Best Buy since they are my client and I must remain loyal to them. The other is the gameroom seating. We’re looking for something cozy and low maintenance since we’ll be spending alot of time watching tv.

That’s it for now.

Furniture and stuff

I’m super excited about the house. The last few weeks we’ve been looking at furniture. We don’t plan on buying anything until we close, and even then it’ll just be the necessities. A Kitchen table, a couch set for the upstairs gameroom, a king size mattress set. That’s only half of what we need to buy. Someday we’ll need a desk set for the office and the formal living room stuff. We’ll leave the other two bedrooms empty until we have kids.

Our current bed and mattress set is going into the guest room. But we’ll be keeping the dress and chest.

The pictures here is the kitchen table and bed we’re getting for the master bedroom. I love love love the kitchen table. Saw it in person at Pier 1 and almost bought it. BUT, I knew better. The price is great too, if only I can find a coupon code out there to get a bigger discount. Hopefully it goes on sale. I think the bed set will also go nicely with our current bedroom set. I found this one at Roomstogo. It’s tough knowing what kind of style you want, but not being able to find it, or at least find it locally.

As far as decorating the house, I’m not sure if we plan on painting any walls. It’s already nicely painted, but a little boring.

Anyway, the major thing left in this buying process is the appraisal. I need to email our agent to see when that’s gonna be done.

We’re also giving notice to our apt today. Brian and I both need to shop for home owners insurance. I got a quote from Travellers, but we also need to look into our current provider, State Farm.

Not much to say

There’s not much going on, well other than the fact that we’re buying a house. I guess I’m in a bit of a rut. Things have been pretty much the same all around, it’s April and it’s freezing out. I know I like the cold, but right now I’d like some warmth, all I wanna do is stay in bed because it’s cold. Anyway, I’ve got quite a bit of work to do today. Gotta finish a massive PowerPoint deck before tomorrow. Eck.

On Friday, we had an account director come in from our Austin office and after talking to her I found she went to Berkner. Well she was there 5 years before I was, but I thought it was cool. I’ll be working with her on a new account I just got assigned. I’m really excited about taking this one on because strategically we can do some interesting stuff. Anyway, I realized that the only way to get to the AD level at that age is to go to grad school like she did. Not that it’s required, but I’m sure it’ll help. Marketing is a completely different world and a bit scary in some ways. Scary as in unfamiliar.

Yesterday, Brian and I went out looking at some home stuff. We stopped by the Great Indoors and some other furniture stores, not wanting to buy stuff, but just to get ideas. I’m glad this home is move in ready. There are some stuff we’ll need to eventually upgrade, but not anytime soon. Our inspection is scheduled for Tuesday. I don’t anticipate them finding anything earth shattering, but we are quite anxious. I hope it turns out well.

We made an offer

Well we made an offer Sunday night. On Monday we got a call from our agent saying that they had countered, so we countered back, and they countered again and we accepted!! I’m a bit disappointed that they didn’t just agree after our first counter, but I guess it’s not too far off. Anyway, we really love the house, so it’s not something that was going to break the deal. Now we just need to start the process. Eek. I can’t believe it’s finally happening.

I will post pictures tomorrow!

Home Shopping

426005189_8f792b6be2.jpgToday was our first trip with our real estate agent. I was a bit nervous at first because I didn’t know what to expect from her nor the houses she picked. She definitely had the houses we picked on her list which is a great thing. But more importantly she was very great to work with. So she was going to take us to see 15 homes, but I think we were worn out by the 7th or 8th home. We found one that we really loved though in Allen. It wasn’t perfect but was pretty close. The only downside I thought were that the secondary bedrooms were a bit to small, the kitchen was a bit cramp because of the center island and the backyard was smaller than what we saw in the previous homes. But, they layout was exactly what we were looking for, it had all the upgraded fixtures and countertops and Brian loves it. It’s definitely plenty of room to grow into. It’s a 4 bedroom, 2 living, 2.5 baths, and 2 garages up in Allen. What was really striking about the house was the drive up appeal. It’s in a very nice neighborhood and close to the highway. The only downside still is that it’s in Allen which I think is a bit too far north.

Anyway, what we’ve realized so far is that we do not like older homes, there are just too many features that are unappealing, such as the brass fixtures, old siding, etc.

We did find a house that I thought was nice, although it was too plain and not as striking as the one above. This one is in Murphy, still a bit far, but it would probably be the same commute as the home in Allen. It’s bigger though, but very boring. The neighborhood wasn’t as nice. I think we have to drive around both communities to see what the surroundings are like. We’ll also have to compare the school districts and such.

While we really liked the home in Allen, this is still our first trip. Hopefully Mary Ann, our agent knows what we’re looking for and can find something better. We’re hoping to make a second trip with her this week.

I would post better pictures, but I don’t trust the general public with what we’ve found. Some weirdo may recognize that house or try to “steal” it from us. (actually, i didn’t want to go through the process of resizing them :0))
