Duran Photography

Yesterday we visited with Duran Photography. The photographer was nice, it was kinda uncomfortable sitting in his house. I guess that wasn’t a big deal. The prices were much higher than I thought. From TheKnot, his price range was 1000-1999, however, his actual packages were 895 – 3495. The package we were most interested in was 1695 and included 5 hours of photog time, an album, and a bridal or engagement session, and some free prints. Even though his samples looked great, and even his signature shots were nice, there was just something missing. Maybe it’s the combination of pricing and style. It was more traditional than I was hoping for. I like the more candid, photojournalistic shots. Brian said that most people who can afford his style would prefer more traditional shots. Then he also had the Romance series shots which were really cute, but cheesy and seemed more like posed shots. It’s definitely worth keeping in mind, but we’ll continue to look.
Brian’s co-worker knows Alex Ham of AlexHamPhotograhy pretty well. The style is much more artistic, but the prices are much higher. $2250 for the Gold package, which includes 5 hours of photog time, 300 proof prints, and the rights to the digital negatives, no album – but we can get an album for $600 more. We’ll see.

Wish I had some wisdom to share on Alex Ham… I’ll have to check him out. I can tell you that a friend of mine used Duran and I was NOT impressed with her photos! (She’s KILL me if she knew I was saying this!) Anyway – the house thing – you’ll see alot of that. Many wedding vendors work out of their homes (tremendous tax write off among the benefits there), so that’s not really weird…. But he’s not impressive. His work.. or his personality. He actually made the other bridesmaid and myself hold up reflective stuff and shading at her bridal portraits at the Arboretum – and cart his crap around! It was really unprofessional…. Just wanted to let you know… I’ll get off your site now or I’ll just continue giving you advice! :o)
