Southfork - #1 Choice

Well today while Brian was watching the basketball game and messing with the receiver speakers, I decided to go see Southfork Ranch by myself. It wasn’t that far from here actually. 15 minute drive across 75 on Parker. The area around it is definitely rural. Southfork isn’t so spectacular. It’s just a farm/ranch. There were horses and stalls for the cows or horses. It’s situated on a pretty big land. The house itself seems very small from the outside. It’s only a 4 bedroom house, but the inside is decorated pretty lavishly. I took the tour because it was the only way to get in and see the grounds.

IMG_0252If we were to have a wedding, it would take place in a ballroom that is separate from the house. It looks like it used to be a stable or something that’s been converted to a ballroom. The building actually has 2 event rooms of equal size. It’s much much bigger than CityPlace; about 3 times as big. Even the dance floor was bigger. The only issue with Southfork is the price. The food is pretty comparable, and they have similar menus. But they do charge a facility fee. Luckily they were setting up the ballroom for a wedding that is taking place tonight. So I was able to take some pictures of what it would actually look like for a wedding. Very pretty. I think Brian would like this. Very similar to the KC hall he’s used to or keep suggesting.

I still have to make an appointment with the wedding coordinator to check on prices and options.

I’m starting to rethink this one as the #1 Choice. There’s gotta be something better. It’s a No-Go for Capella Court, even though we haven’t visited the place. Kristin at work says it used to be something else and was closed for bankruptcy. It’s also it a shady part of Richardson. We also need to look at Canyon Creek Country Club in Richardson…

CityPlace - No-Go?

IMG_0167This morning, Brian and I visited CityPlace. It was decent but small. I’m not sure we’ll go with this one. It was just to small. They had 2 rooms that we’d consider. The one on the 42nd floor was ok. The view was spectacular, but the room itself didn’t really sell itself. They were also very restrictive, we had to use their own caterer and bar services. The price is by far the most competitive but it just wasn’t that great. In fact, the other room that is more within our budget, 4500 minimum, was nice and lofty. However the floor space itself was too small, AND you can see offices down the hall. It is an office building…7-eleven is based there. Oh well.

I still need to make an appointment with Southfork Ranch, Swan Court, and Cappella Court.

Churches

Brian wants to have the ceremony at a Lutheran church. I’m all for that. Unfortunately since we’re not a member at any church, not only will it be tough to decide which one, but also we can’t save money because we’re not members. I don’t want to join one just for the sake of joining a church so we can have our wedding there, it’s a little too sacreligious. I guess we can do it at my parents’ church, although I’ve never been there, and I have no idea where or what it looks like. A co-worker was saying that it’s not that cheap if you’re not a member. I was complaining how Perkin’s Chapel at SMU charges about 1600 including videotaping, traffic officer, organist. We need to provide our chaplain, but I do have someone in mind. My co-worker’s church, the largest church known to man, Prestonwood Baptist Church charges the same amount; maybe because it’s big?

Whatever! We will find that Lutheran church, there’s plenty out there. I guess we should join as well. We both need to start going to church anyway…

My side of the story

I’ve finally written up my story on our engagement story over at my site. It’s like Christina’s but clever and amusing.

Go read it.

Reception Site Visit #1

I just made an appointment to visit CityPlace Dallas for this Saturday. Of all the places, the pricing structure here is the easiest. They offer everything you need. The price is based on food per person. Decorations, waiters, set-up, clean-up, even cake cutting (which other places charge for) is inclusive in that price. They just want a minimum to book certain rooms. Obviously the 42nd floor which is huge requires a minimum of 9000. But the other ballrooms is only 4500. Since the price per person is about $24-$35 a person, that’s pretty reasonable…

Amazon.com registry available

Amazon wedding I’ve just set up a wedding registry over at Amazon.com so head over there and buy me the one item I think I may want a year and a half from now. They require a date and location just like Target does, but at least they make it easy to edit if it changes. You can use this direct link or you can find it anytime by searching for our names at www.amazon.com/wedding.

I don’t really know what kind of stuff we’re going to ask for from where, but I wanted at least one item in there and I knew Foley’s and Crate & Barrel don’t have tool sets. With all these different places to register I think it’s going to be a little tough to keep everything straight. You don’t want to put similar items on lists at different stores or you’ll end up with 17 toasters.

Alright, get over there and start buying me us stuff.

David’s Bridal sucks

David’s Bridal sucks -

First off, you have to make an appointment to try on dresses. Which is fine, because most places do require that… but at least tell people.

Secondly all their dresses were ugly. Well, not all of them, but I just couldn’t find one that I liked. It just seems like I had to force myself to want to try on one of the dresses. Oh well. I know I won’t be getting my dress there. I still made an appointment though just in case.

Wedding Planning

The other single girl in my team at work just got engaged last Friday. Well my thunder is gone… :-p

At least I got a Tiffany Ring. ;-)

Anyway, we have yet to do any planning. Yes I have tried on dresses, yes I have looked at websites, but we have not even confirmed the date. Next weekend, Brian and I will go out to the reception sites to see what they have to offer. Hopefully then we’ll be able to confirm something. I’d still like to have it September 2nd, but if it’s unlikely that we’ll get that date, then we can always move it up to August or maybe even next spring (too early?)…

We need to get things going!!
